Trevor Baskin – Pomona
Five games in and the top scorer in the entire state is a player that we have gotten really familiar with in big man Trevor Baskin. Baskin is one of the best playmakers from the big man position that has been on a tear scoring the basketball. He is up to 29 points a game and one of the most incredible things about it is he is scoring it on 79% shooting from the field. He has not missed and gets it done in various ways. He rebounds at a high rate and is able to start the break, he can catch it on the block and he also gets inside of the lane and dunks it no matter who is around. He is one of the state’s top players and is showing that he can score in various ways.
Luke O’ Brien – Columbine
O’Brien is a player that we are really familiar with around here as he has been a Top-3 player for his entire high school career. The future Colorado Buffalo is the third leading scorer in the entire state to begin this season at 28.2 points a game and has been one of the most impressive again. He is also one of the top rebounders in the state and at 6’8 possesses the ability to put the ball on the floor for easy baskets and shoot lights out as well. He is one of the toughest players to defend in the state and gets whatever he wants. He gets to the free-throw line, he is a high IQ offensive player that knows where to be and also has lift on his shot to get over smaller defenders. He has his team off to a 6-0 start and has his eyes on not only the scoring title but bringing home the championship as well.
Brayden Carter – Mullen
Junior big man Brayden Carter has been putting up as an impressive a start to the season as any big man in the entire state. He not only has been one of the best rebounders in the state but has scored at will inside as well. Carter is putting up 22.4 points a game through seven games and what stands out most is who he is putting those big numbers up against. Mullen was not shy when choosing their schedules as they have played some of the top teams in the state already. They have played three Top-10 teams in 5A already and he is averaging over 23 points and nine rebounds a game in those contests. He steps up when he is needed most and has been very consistent this season. He is a player to watch moving forward and is a player that has steadily been improving his stock each time out.
Langston Reynolds – Denver East
One of the state’s top scorers in the entire state is also the top sophomore in the state. Langston Reynolds had one of the most impressive off-seasons as any player in the state which saw him jump onto the national scene as well as impressing at essentially every single showcase in-state as well. Reynolds is a gym-rat that not only has the potential to be the best player in the state by the time he is a senior but could very well get there in the next year or two as he is very skilled and a high energy point guard with size to step down on the wing as well. He is a player that can also defend multiple positions and that versatility is what makes him special. He is a two-way player that gets on the break and cannot be slowed down with dunk after dunk but also is unselfish and will find the open man. He rebounds well and plays the passing lanes as well but here we focus on buckets and he has been the leading scorer at 22 points a game on a Denver East team that has been destroying every single team in their way. Big year for him where the stock continues to grow and more schools will be knocking very, very soon.
Boston Stanton III – Denver East
Denver East jumped into the state’s top 5 rankings as they are off to an 8-0 start to the season. They have been absolutely dominating teams and in blowout wins it means that there are big-time scorers. While teammate Reynolds has been the leading scorer for the Angels, Stanton III has been another offensive producer for East that has gotten off to a hot start. The junior combo-guard is right there at 21.6 points a game and is also the team’s leading rebounder at six rebounds a game. Stanton III is a top-10 player in the junior class due to his size and versatility but has been one of the team’s best playmakers as well. He can score from all three levels and is a methodical scorer that picks out his spots and goes at the defender for the duration if the game. He is very strong and a high IQ slasher that finishes well around the rim with either hand but can also shoot the ball as well which keeps the Angels dangerous. He has been picking up some college attention and just received his first D1 offer, but with how he has been playing will see those numbers rise soon as well.
