These teams have been traditionally two of the best teams in the state. This year could be the year they rise to the top again. Last year neither of these teams did great but are looking to come out strong this year.
In this article we will take a dive into George Washington’s team. Even though they are very talented sometimes too many good do not play well together, hopefully this group of young men can meld together well this year.
George Washington
George may have had what some called a disappointing season last year losing in the first round of the playoffs to Boulder. Despite the not ideal season this team has a lot to build on. Their star player Kendale Jonhson is returning for his junior season, which should be a big one. He led the team in scoring last year, averaging 18.8 points per game. A few of his teammates made big improvements over the summer and are looking to help this team out. Jarmell Johnson (2021) is one of those teammates, he has become more assertive with the ball and used his athleticism to get to the rim. Another player who had a big off season was Eddie McPhee (2021), he is player who plays older then he is. He has great court vision to hit open teammates and is a good athlete with a soft touch at the rim.
Kingbed Ageymang and Ramy Marjan are starters returning for their senior seasons. They will bring a good veteran presence to this young team. They are both very good athletes who can throw it down on fast break opportunities. Darrian Hammonds (2021) is another guy who had a good summer, he can play the wing or point guard position; watch out for him to play whatever role he needs to help this team win. They also have a big man transfer in Garrett Brown (2021) who has good height at 6’7, and will help them out by getting rebounds and blocking shots down low. In addition, they have a few good sophomores who had great off seasons with GIVE Sports, Vinny May is a straight dog for his age at 6’4, he is a good shooter and can attack inside. Kijuan Thompson was another stand out sophomore who is one of the quickest guys in the state.
