Central Catholic hasn't hosted much open gym time for hoops due to schedule conflicts with football and volleyball, but on Tuesday afternoon head coach David Blue and his staff opened up the basketball floor to the guys and we had the opportunity to drop by and take a look. Here’s a glimpse at the top guys we noticed (Quinn Hallinan was injured and Darius Gakwasi was not present).

Deray Seamster (2020)

From a consistency standpoint, Seamster was the best player in open gym on Tuesday. The 6-foot-2 senior was on point with his perimeter shooting, knocking down open threes while also converting some mid-to-long range pull-ups. He also attacked the basket and finished at the rim in transition - all while displaying some great passing skills, especially with a number of outlet passes. We caught up with Seamster and will have an update posted soon.

Isaiah Amato (2020)

From a pure talent perspective, Amato has the most on the team - if not in the entire senior class. The 6-foot-4 senior is simply effortless on the floor with his movements and makes what might be hard for the usual high school player look easy. Amato was on point with his ball-handling and penetration moves, and while he struggled a little with turning the ball over, made some nice dishes for easy hoops. We're not sure if he will ever be a knockdown three shooter but he converted some long pull-up jumpers and also some impressive floaters in the lane. And of course, he flashed his athleticism: on one drive he blew past his defender and threw down a thunder jam over two defenders, a play that had the entire gym - players and coaches alike - gasp in awe.

Gaige Ainslie (2020)

The first thing we immediately noticed about Ainslie is that he's bulked up. Now at about 215 pounds, the 6-foot-8 senior has added muscle and he was very aggressive in his finishes inside, often strongly throwing down two-handed slams. He actually didn't get too many touches in the scrimmages but ran the floor, grabbed a number of offensive boards, and also spotted up for a couple of open mid-range jumpers.

Luke Johnson (2022)

Fresh off of playing football, you couldn't really notice Johnson had any rust on the basketball floor. The 6-foot-7 sophomore was easily running the floor, catching passes in transition, and throwing down dunks as if he's been doing it all fall. Johnson also posted up and hit some impressive turnaround jumpers. He's got length, athleticism, and skill on the court and it will be interesting to see how he fits in this upcoming season.

Riley Williams (2023)

Williams is another football kid who should contribute on the basketball court this year for Central Catholic, the question will be what level. At about 6-foot-4, he's a well-built post player who plays hard and does a lot of the little things inside on both ends. Williams hit the boards hard, was a physical defender, and finished some plays at the rim with authority.

Graham Eikenberry (2023)

We were tipped off to Eikenberry by elite trainer Kumbeno Memory and the 6-foot-7 freshman is definitely intriguing. He's very lanky, still a bit tentative and raw offensively but he has good hands, a pretty nice touch around the hoop, and can step away and hit shots away from the basket. The main thing where Eikenberry impressed is how hard he plays. He ran the floor well and was always battling for the ball on both ends.

Gray Thompson (2023)

Thompson immediately caught our eye in drills as the 6-foot-4ish redhead was dunking the basketball with ease. He's also physically well-built for his age and seems as if he's still got more room to grow. In the scrimmages, he seemed to blend in a bit more but he showed a pretty nice touch from the perimeter and in general, played hard on both ends.

Sean Chris Trevsant (2023)

Trevsant is a smaller guard at 5-foot-10 but one thing he had over everyone else is he's super fast. The freshman has an ultra-quick lefty first step that allowed him to blow by defenders and while he lacks size, he showed the ability to finish over bigger defenders in the paint. Trevsant also showed some decent touch from the perimeter and was very active defensively with his on-the-ball defense. He's certainly one to watch going forward.
