We have designed our “All-Area All-Star Teams” and have taken a look at a couple of leagues already, but one we have not looked at is one that has a few teams that could emerge at the top of the bunch, the 4A Jeffco League.
First Team:
PG: Alex Morales – Wheat Ridge – Sr.
Last season Morales was able to be a constant source of scoring for Wheat Ridge as he put up 10 points, 2.3 rebounds. If he is able to begin the season like he did last season he can head into a big Senior season with a hand start. He is a scorer that is aggressive offensively and opens things up for others with his scoring.
SG: Kevin Mulligan – Golden – Sr.
Mulligan is a player to keep your eye on as the season goes along as he is a competitor that is going to give his all every single game, play hard-nosed defense, help out on the boards and score. He put up 9.6 points a game last season but also made sure to get involved on the boards and also on the defensive end as he averaged almost three steals a game. This season it will be about getting back right as Golden is typically a team that is winning, bringing their best effort every single night and a team you don’t want to see on the schedule. Big season coming.
SF: Dominic Bronk – Wheat Ridge – Sr.
11.4 points but really it was him on the boards that turned a few heads. He put up 8.4 rebounds and was an engine for Wheat Ridge. He competes on both ends, is fearless as a defender and works hard on the glass. This season he will have to push for averaging a double-double.
SF/PF: Tayvis Sagrillo Smiley – Littleton — Sr.
Littleton was a team that did not have a good year last season but a player that did have a relatively solid season, considering, was Smiley. He was forced to do a ton with the team that struggled but made the best of it as he put up 14 points and eight rebounds a game. He is a wing player that uses his side and aggression on both ends gets him easy baskets. This year it will have to translate to wins so he can be taken seriously.
C: Griffin Lauritano – Evergreen – Sr.
Evergreen was one of the standout teams last season as they finished with a 15-9 record, good for second in the Jeffco league and the player that they rode was their sensational sophomore Lauritano. Lauritano is not a center at all but with his height, he was one of the taller players in the league that was able to guard both bigs and guards. He is a super athlete with a high basketball IQ and his 14 points and just under six rebounds a game were needed. This season, he will have to take an inexperienced team on his back and up those numbers as one of the top players in the class.
Bench
Guard: Blake Schell – Green Mountain – Sr.
Schell is a true playmaker that runs the team, gets the group in their set and excels in half-court situations. What he did this season as an underclassman should have him relishing another opportunity to prove he is a good player. He had 14 points and eight rebounds a game. He will have to up himself as an assist-man to get others involved and also have plays that translate to wins.
Wing: Ben McLaughlin – Golden – Sr.
McLaughlin is also another player that I feel will break out this season. He is a combo guard with good size and the ability to play both ways. He can play multiple positions offensively and if Golden wants to surprise some teams this year he is going to have to up his game. I know he is up for the challenge and will be in positions to score.
