Players went at it in front of college coaches and brought some of their best stuff. Here are the top guards that surprised at the event.
Jaylen Carrizales—Vista Peak
Carrizales is a player that is really interesting to watch. He is highly entertaining and he finished a couple of and 1’s as well. He moved without the ball and finished well at the rim. He also had one of the best plays on the day with his behind the back finish after leaving the defender confused. He is a player to watch moving forward for sure.
Cam Le Van—Legend
Le Van had himself a day and this was the play that I have been excited to see as of late. He has looked very comfortable scoring the ball and he already has the moves to be one of the toughest players to defend as is. Now with the ability to score both inside and out with also having great court vision and awareness he is turning into a guard that has to be taken seriously. I like his maturation from the first time I have seen him until now and if he keeps this up Legend will be a team to watch as he is putting it altogether now.
Thomas Apodaca—Denver Lutheran
Apodaca is one of the best perimeter defenders I have seen since last season as he is very physical and moves his feet. He anticipates where the defender is going and makes it difficult for them to get going and that gives him so many extra opportunities. He also showed that he could get himself going offensively as well as he knocked down multiple shots from deep. He is a player that I really feel will jump on the scene as one of the top guards with the success that Lutheran will surely have with their new players coming in. Keep him on your radars.
Korey Hess—Arapahoe
Hess did a bit of everything at the event. He got to the rim, he stayed aggressive and showed that he is a down-hill runner. He kept defenders guessing with plenty of go to moves, he was ultra-aggressive offensively which broke down the defense and also has a really tight handle. He started getting comfortable throughout the games and that’s when he started reeling off deep 3-pointers. Hess has plenty in his arsenal and it was great to see him put it together with a few floaters and runners and shots at the basket coupled with knocking down shots as well.
Rashiek Gaddis – Northfield
Gaddis is a player that we got to see at the Top 250 Expo as he made the list as one of the best unknown players but from what I seen at the showcase, he is definitely a player to take seriously. He has an old school feel to his game as he is very strong and plays hard-nosed defense. He gets to the spots he wants on offense and he works well in half court sets. He started feeling himself after awhile as he started knocking down 3-pointer after 3-pointer. He is a player to watch and take seriously. This Northfield team excites me.
