The bouncy 6-foot-3, 170-pound rising senior finished off the AAU season with Seattle Rotary and has been busy with combines and camps the past couple of weeks, most recently this past Friday at Portland State Elite Camp. Garrett is continuing to hear from a number of college programs and as he prepares for the 2019-20 season, he’s able to reflect back on how things went for him this summer.
“No matter what our record was, it was a good experience,” Garrett said. “To be able to compete at Peach Jam – it’s always going to be a good experience and I couldn’t have been any more happier about that. I feel like I’ve gotten a long stronger playing against bigger players. My release has gotten a lot quicker and my ball-handling – I’ve been working on the complete package getting ready for the season.”
Speaking of the upcoming season, where will Garrett be playing? He obviously was looking at transferring as he suited up with Jefferson in June ball. While things went well and he fit right in with the Demos, after a lot of thought Garrett won’t be moving – he’ll be playing his senior season at West Linn. One of the reasons why – returning head coach Erik Viukhola.
“Coach V is a great coach,” Garrett said. “As you know he was there when Payton Pritchard won those state championships so he’s going to push us. He’s going to get us a lot better and I feel like he’s going to put us in the right position to get to the Chiles Center.”
While Garrett doesn’t have any new offers out of the summer, Washington State, Oregon State, and Portland State continue to monitor his progress and will do so through this upcoming season at West Linn. “Those are the main three schools I’ve been talking to right now,” Garrett said. “I’m probably going to visit Seattle U soon as they want me to go on an unofficial there.”
As that situation continues to develop, Garrett is chomping at the bit to get things going again with the Lions. “I think we’re going to have a good team,” Garrett said. “We’ve got Jackson Shelstad, Bryson Crockett coming back, Joe Juhala – we’ve got a lot of good pieces. We can go far this year – we’re definitely going to have a good team.”
Garrett currently ranks as the #1 ranked player in the PrepHoops Oregon Class of 2020.
