On the final day we got the opportunity to check out some of the best shooters from there event. Here is who stood out.
Elijah Mullett – Fort Lupton
Mullett was a player who really stood out against one of the top teams in the event and allowed his team to hang around. With guards penetrating and kickin, he was in a prime spot to take over and knock down shots and he was able to do that as he knocked down six 3-pointers to lead the team for 24 points. He showed he was a knock down shooter that is also able to run around and get himself open and made a name for himself as a sniper.
Peyton Westfall– Pine Creek
Westfall is a player that has adapted since the first time that I saw him play. He used to only be a shooter but has now become a guard that is able to create for himself and others. In a game that seen another player score 40 points it was difficult to be able to see other players impact on the game but Westfall was able to showcase he was able to find other players as well as create his own and he did it both inside and outside. He has soft touch, can create off of the dribble and had a quick release. The thing I enjoy about Westfall’s game is even when his shot is not falling, he is a shooter you have to respect and he has the ability to have the defense gravitate towards him which helps open things up for others.
Zachary Mascerenas—Cibola (NM)
Mascerenas had the best game of the event from a scoring standpoint as he got himself in a zone and from there he took over. He was shooting from almost half-court and was definitely not shy about letting it fly. He was coming off of screens, shooting off of the dribble and went through multiple frames in the game where he went for three straight 3-pointers. Mascerenas had 41 points in the game which is incredible considering it was a showcase and there was an even amount of time given out. He knocked down 10 3-pointers and also recorded about seven steals as well. He had himself a day and was one of the highlights of Sunday in the second gym.
Isaac Jessup— Resurrection Christian
Jessup was a player that stood out the moment that I walked into the gym as he knocked down two straight 3-pointers –from deep. Jessup has extreme confidence in his shot and can easily break a zone with his range. He was pulling up from the parking lot and what was incredible is it did not take long for him to get started, from there he was being pushed out on the 3-point line and was able to adjust and show off a bit of versatility as he got to the rim and set players up as well. He was setting up the defender with head fakes and shooting, is a player that can change the outcome of the game and also had good form with a good feel of playing off ball. Great showing on Sunday.
