He also has his future to consider.
Seamons has a dream of playing collegiate basketball and luckily for him, helping the Trojans win their second straight championship could be exactly what he needs to kill two birds with one stone. While his recruitment has picked up over the past 18 months, Seamons still has unfinished business and that means continuing to make an impression throughout the final month of his prep career.
“It’s been going well but I just have to keep working so it continues to get better,” Seamons said. “I’m not signed yet so finishing out the season strong with my team is what I’m focused on.”
Trojans head coach Jeff Kloster, who isn’t easily impressed or one to give the green light to just any player, added that Seamons is capable of creating his own shot, has a step-back jumper and can impact basketball games in a number of ways. Seamons is currently the Trojans’ second-leading scorer with an average of 12.6 points per game. He shoots 57 percent from the field and 37 percent from 3-point range.
Definitely capable of playing above the rim at 6-foot-5, 190 pounds, Seamons also averages 4.7 rebounds, 1.7 assists and 1.2 steals per game. A club player for the Colorado Chaos, Seamons boasts a season high of 23 points against Mountain View this prep season.
“He’s extremely athletic,” Kloster said. “He’s about 6foot-5, he’s a quick jumper and he shoots the ball well. He’d be a perimeter player at the next level but unfortunately for him, we have to play him a little more inside than he probably would like. So, he’s unselfish.
“Calvin has a very quick first step so he can get to the rim, and when he gets to the rim he finishes.”
Seamons is also a strong student and has received interest from several Division-III programs including Macalester College and Hope College. Hastings College has also reportedly been in touch.
The Trojans are currently 21-0 and appear to be poised for a deep playoff run and a potential title defense in Class 4A.
