For most of this season, the skilled 6-foot-5, 205-pound forward was watching from the sidelines while recovering from ankle surgery simply chomping at the bit to get on the court. But the sophomore is now back for Lake Oswego and after coming along slowly, is making a big impact for the #1 ranked Lakers as they inch closer to the state tournament.
“It’s been a rough comeback but I’ve been back for like eight games now and I think I’m officially back into it,” Salton said. “Things have come along good and I feel like I’m coming out there with ease. I’m definitely rebounding and attacking because that’s what I was good at before and I’m glad it stuck with me.”
Salton most recently impressed with a 12-point, six-rebound, two-assist performance against Franklin in the first round of the OSAA 6A playoffs. He’s got a mature body already for his age and he’s already got a good feel for the game. He noted that he’s working on improving his outside shot but right now, Salton is already providing some great frontcourt depth for a team that was deep to begin with.
Until he was able to play several games ago, the last action he had really gotten was in AAU ball where he played with the Rose City Rebels 15U squad – a team he’ll rejoin this spring. There he’ll run with an extremely talented group on the EYBL and hopefully pick up some college recruiting interest, any of which he’s open to.
“It’s kind of early for me so anything right now as I don’t have any offers,” Salton said. “Anyone that would accept me, I’d be very grateful.”
No doubt there’s plenty of time for college recruiting – and AAU basketball for Salton. There is a team goal this year for Lake Oswego and it’s to make it to the state tournament. Then from there, anything is possible.
“We have a strong unit and I know we can go far in this,” Salton said. “We need to have trust in our teammates and our coaches.”
Salton currently ranks as the #10 player in the PrepHoops Oregon Class of 2021 rankings.
