Incentivized by the fact he hasn’t yet received an offer to play in college, and energized by his team’s hot start and significant potential, Bowles isn’t wasting a second of his senior year since there are plenty of reasons for him to make the most of it. Already Prep Hoops’ No. 6-ranked player in Colorado, Bowles feels like he has taken steps towards raising his stock already in 2018-19.
“It’s going well,” Bowles said. “I’m just working hard to make my game better. Skill-wise, I’m trying to show my ball-handling and my jump shot in games because that’s what I’ve been working on the most in the offseason and this season.”
Bowles is a fluid 6-foot-6 guard/forward who attacks the rim, plays above the rim with ease, can play with his back to the basket and shoots the ball well from the outside. He is averaging 24.3 points per game this season, which is the seventh highest scoring average of any player in Colorado. Bowles is also shooting 50 percent from the field, 42 percent from 3-point range and 85 percent at the free-throw line.
Working hard this season to demonstrate his versatility, Bowles is also averaging 8.9 rebounds and 3.1 assists per game. The team captain’s rebounding average is a full three boards per game higher than last season. He has three double-doubles in seven games, and was either one or two rebounds short in two other games.
Though he isn’t limiting his options by any means, Bowles would love to see some in-state or at least regional options emerge.
“I don’t want to go too far from home,” Bowles said. “I’m not ruling any schools out, D-I, D-II, D-III, it doesn’t matter. I’m just trying to play my best and let everything else work itself out. I’ll just keep playing hard for my teammates and see what we can do this season. I really want to play in college and all I can do to make that happen is try to show that coaches that I can play.”
With Bowles leading the way, the Thunderbolts are 5-2 and are ranked sixth in Class 3A by the CHSAANow.com poll.
