Continue ReadingJohnson Central has become one of the most consistently good programs in the mountains over the last few years. Now they have one of the best Sophomores in the state as well as a Senior who is a McDonald’s All-American nominee. The Sophomore is 6’3 wing forward Isaiah May. Isaiah is currently the leading scorer and rebounder for the Golden Eagles at 17.8 points and 6.1 rebounds per game. I recently caught up with May to discuss his game and his goals for the year.
Isaiah described his abilities to me as, “I aim to be unselfish and a team player and I try to make plays at all 3 levels on offense and defense.” The wing told me his strengths, “I feel like I am a good shooter, especially mid-range pull ups, but I just try to be a complete player from the post to the point guard.” May does realize his limitations and what he needs to work on to improve as a prospect, “I need to work on being a better leader. Defensively I need to concentrate on help side. Offensively I’m working on finishing better at the rim.”
As he’s nearing the postseason of his Sophomore year, Isaiah has set a goal for himself and is close to accomplishing it. “I would like to become the first sophomore in the history of Johnson Central to reach 1,000 points (86 points away after last night’s game).” After Johnson Central has failed to reach the Sweet Sixteen the last two seasons, May has his sights set squarely on one goal for his team, “I want to win district and win region, I want to play at Rupp.” If Johnson Central is going to make it to Rupp Arena this year, Isaiah May is going to have to elevate his game even more.
