Junior Nick Jacobs is one of the many Mavericks who excels while looking natural on the basketball court but also loves other sports like football and baseball.
At 6-foot-4, 175 pounds, Jacobs likely has the physical ability to play a number of sports at the next level. Whichever he chooses is up to him, obviously, but Mead head coach Darin Reese thinks Jacobs could have a future as a collegiate basketball player.
“Nick is skilled enough and is more than capable of ending up somewhere,” Reese said. “He handles it, at times, well enough to be a point guard. He’s quick, athletic, and he can shoot it. We’ve got a lot of guys who are some serious multi-sport athletes and he’s another one who does a lot of different sports really well.”
The Mavericks’ starting shooting guard, Jacobs also backs up teammate Will Maher at the point guard spot. He is currently averaging 13.0 points, 2.5 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.5 steals per game. Jacobs, who shoots 34 percent from 3-point range, is long and athletic, and has scored 15 or more points in six of 13 games so far in his junior season.
During his sophomore baseball season last spring, Jacobs batted .373 with five extra-base hits. He caught three touchdowns while playing wide receiver for the Mavericks’ football team this past fall.
