A good Lafayette team traveled cross city to Bryan Station to take on another red hot team in the Defenders. The Generals game into the game sitting at 10-3 on the year, while the Defenders had only lost one game (to an out of state team). At the end of the night, Bryan Station came out on top, staying undefeated against in-state competition. Bryan Station 81-Lafayette 66. Prep Hoops Kentucky gives you our five takeaways from the game:
.) The duo of Eric Boone and Terrence Clayton-Murphy is pretty darn good. Boone finished with 25 points and 19 rebounds while Clayton-Murphy scored 24 and grabbed 7 rebounds. One of the best back-courts in Lexington, hands down.
.) Someone is going to get a steal with Eric Boone one day – The senior guard will have options, although the JUCO route is more probable than any at the moment. I have no doubt there is room for Boone at the D1 level somewhere. Kentucky Wesleyan and Kentucky State (D2) have both offered.
.) Terrence Clayton-Murphy also deserves some more attention. Some NAIA’s, D3’s, and even some lower level D2’s should give Clayton-Murphy a look. Needs to improve his shooting but is very capable in every other aspect of the game.
.) Eric Powell of Lafayette needs to be more consistent for the the Generals to be the best version of themselves. A 15-20 point per game scorer when he wants to be, Powell only had 9 tonight.
.)TeAndre Newcomb stepped up for the Lafayette Generals tonight. The junior guard led all scorers with 21.
