Recruiting Report: D’Auntray (Tre) Pierce (2019)
Just in case George Washington fans forgot about how good it feels to have a big man dominate for all four quarters and will his team to victory 6’7” big man D’Auntray Pierce (2019) reminded everyone of his ability in a huge game this past week against out of conference foe Overland Trailblazers. Pierce had a career night, finishing with 14 points, 16 rebounds and 7 blocks.
It wasn’t just Pierce’s numbers though. He looked to have been in better shape, made better decisions on the defensive end and even shifted the defense with his newfound stroke from mid-range, making him a more dynamic player. But, it’s no accident, Pierce told us that’s something that he worked on all summer.
“A mid-range jumper and attempting to produce in more ways on the offensive end is something I’ve been working on all summer long,” said Pierce before saying, “my coach and my teammates asked for me to come back this year more aggressive and put in the work and that’s what I did all summer long.”
In four games this year, Pierce is averaging 8.2 points, 4.8 rebounds and 3 blocks per game but feels as if those numbers will only grow from here on out.
“I’m just going to head into this season a lot more aggressive and be more forceful out there. My teammates need for me to play well and we have a really good team. If I do what I have to do on the defensive end and do a bit more offensively, I think we’ll have a pretty good season.”
While Tre seems to be playing better, his recruitment is off and on but he hopes that it picks up soon with his recent play. He understands hard work, dedication and academics will be important factors in what college he goes to.
In regards to his skillset, Pierce has always been known as a rim protector, one of the best in the state in fact. He’ll need to pick up a bit of weight at the next level but he has a high motor and soft touch around the rim that’ll set him apart. His presence on the boards will need to pick up and he’ll need to have more games like his Overland game in which he had 16 rebounds and looked to score more often than not to make the Patriots that much more dangerous. He has the makings of a good player that can contribute at the next level he just has to continue to progress.
