Recruiting Report: Justin Wiersema (2018)
Thompson Valley 6-foot-3, 170 pound wing Justin Wiersema returns for his senior year with high expectations in mind.
After a 15 point, seven rebound, and two assist per game season as a junior Justin put had a strong four months with the Titans.
“I played with the Colorado Titans in the spring and through the summer,” Wiersema said. “It was one of the best decisions of my career because I improved significantly. My junior year was successful, I would say I was a key factor of our team last year and held a key role in our wins.”
Justin got better in several ways but there was two he pinpointed for Prep Hoops.
“This off-season I really worked on my defense and shooting.” Justin explained. “Last year I didn’t get to shoot as much as I wanted to so this offseason I’ve gotten in the gym a lot and really found my shot.
“As well as offense, my defense has improved tremendously as well. With the Titans we were taught how to play sound defense and I thought I really flourished with that.”
Wiersema and Jared Kasprzak are a pair of Thompson Valley headliners that lead a team with high expectations.
“This year I think we have plenty on the table for us,” Justin explained. “We have Jared Kasprzak coming back from last year, he’s been on varsity for four years now and he brings leadership and experience. He will be a key factor in winning this year.
“We also have Darren Edwards coming back from last year. His smooth shot from the arc will also be a key factor in winning. The rest of our team is built and we all are going to click coming game time.”
With the talent on their roster the kids from Thompson Valley have high expectations.
“My individual goal for this season is to score given my changes, as well as open up my team for scoring opportunities as well. I want to be a leader of my team and control the tempo. Our team goal is to be conference champions, and in the long run to make a deep playoff run. “
Justin plays a couple sports but is very interested in playing basketball at a neighboring state program.
“I have taken a college visit to Concordia University in Seward, Nebraska and are currently in the talking and considering going there to play basketball,” Justin said.
