Recruiting Report: Sawyer Cirbo (2018)
Six foot guard Sawyer Cirbo of Horizon High is a two year double figure scorer who is also a soccer standout.
Cirbo has scored in double figures the past couple seasons scoring on nearly half of his field goals attempts and nearly 80 percent of his foul shots.
“This off-season, I played summer ball with my high school team winning over 30 games,” Sawyer said. “Myself averaging about 16, 5, and 3. My main focus in the offseason was weights, and shooting. I have gained 20 pounds, (the good weight) and have shot everyday to improve my field goal percentage.”
Cirbo wants to be the vocal leader for his team in addition to the playmaker.
“My focus of improvement as far as mentally has been to be that leader, the rock for my team,” Cirbo said. “Dependable, smart, vocal, and experienced. In action, throughout summer and in my offseason is being a threat at the rim, forcing fouls, finishing in the paint, and getting to the free throw line.
“Defensively smart and dependable, guarding the opponents best players. The weight I have put on gives me the strength to do so at a high level. I’m not just a shooter now, I am all around.”
With Cirbo back this season a long March run is their expectation.
“We lost two starters last year, great dependable seniors but this year we will have an experienced, fast, hungry, and great shooting team. We expect to be the top in our district, top 2 or 3 team in the front range league, and to host a playoff game and see the run we can make.”
Sawyer has a lot of goals he hopes to accomplish this winter both himself and as as a team.
Individually, I want to be a first team all conference player,” Cirbo stated. “I want to be a consistent shooter and scorer and a dependable defender.
“Team wise, we have big goals. Top 2-3 team in the Front Range league, and to host a playoff game and make noise in the state tournament.”
Sawyer scored 23 goals in soccer this season plus six assists. Colleges are hoping to add Cirbo on the soccer field.
“For basketball I have not been contacted, for soccer though many schools have contacted me.
“I finished my senior soccer year leading the league in points and goals. Receiving all state awards, player of the year nominee (not yet determined for the winner) and am a two time first team all conference player.”
