Recruiting Report: Nieyeme Smyer-Williams (2018)
Pueblo West guard Nieyeme Smyer-Williams is entering his senior year coming off a good off-season with South Central Elite.
“The top highlights were just me being a play maker getting my team better,” Nieyeme said about his 17u year. “And I think my game improves every time I step on the court because I’m always trying to do new different things.
“I’m getting more assists, rebounds, and putting some points up and also I like to challenge myself to guard the best player in the gym without getting in foul trouble (Smyer-Williams emphasized this).
Nieyeme gave Pueblo West 13 points, three boards, two assists, and two steals a contest as a junior for one of the best teams in the state. He’s also a multi-purpose threat on the football field this fall.
‘First I have to stay healthy because I’m in football right now but I’ve been trying to stay in my basketball grove,” he said. “I’ve been doing workouts every Saturday and Sundays with coach Peuon.
He coaches his sons and his team the “Lil Kings” so a big shout out to him for helping me with my game and trying to be best the guard I can be but my improvement is to come to practice every day and be that “spark guy”.
“That’s what my head coach Bobby Tyler calls it and that means being the intense guy in practice, being a leader communicating, and just having that energy I can bring to the team and athletes.
“I just have to stay focused and do my work and then ball comes.”
After a 23-3 team the expectations remain high.
“We want to accomplish the little things first like being a team having that team bond, we need that chemistry to do anything. And we have a pretty dang good squad coming into this fall this season.
“Once everyone is on the same page and everyone is healthy then we are set. Our goal is to win one game at a time to get to the state championship game.”
College programs are also starting to make contact with Nieyeme.
“Otero Junior College, Metro State, Trinidad State, and Colorado State-Pueblo,” Nieyeme explained. “I have not visited any schools and I would like to visit many schools so I can just to see what they are like.”
