Recruiting Report: Luke Johnson (2018)
Luke Johnson of Longmont led his team with 17.5 points a game as a junior and the 5-foot-11 guard spent his summer playing with the Colorado Titans.
“My best highlights from the summer probably included when we went to Vegas for our last tourney because we really came together as a team and played our best basketball and it was really enjoyable,” Luke said.
“Over the last the last 4 months I’ve been working on getting on faster and stronger for the season, and I think I’ve really improved in that aspect.”
Johnson hopes to improve his Longmont team from 13-12 last year as well as his ability at the next level.
“Specifically I’m looking to add a little more quickness to my first step and working on my explosiveness especially with me being on the smaller side,” Luke said.
Most of last year’s Longmont team returns so a 20 win season is the hope.
“We should be much improved after being a little above .500 last year,” Luke said. “We only lost one senior from last year and return most of our scoring so we definitely believe we can be a top 4a team. I’m looking forward to leading this team.”
Schools around the Midwest are calling Johnson.
“I have been in contact with mainly Augustana College, Carleton College, University of Mary-Hardin Baylor, and Lake Forest College,” Luke said.
“I just took a visit this last Weekend to Augustana and really enjoyed it and am planning on visiting Carleton on the 13th.”
What point guards have influenced Johnson? Some of the best.
“I would say a lot of my game is influenced by Steve Nash and John Stockton,” Johnson stated. “Just being able to control the pace and getting my teammates the ball while getting my own shot.
“My favorite hooper right now has got to be Kyrie Irving, I’ve liked him since his Duke days.”
