Recruiting Report: Jahwan Phillips (2018)
Six-foot-2 guard Jahwan Phillips was at Smoky Hill last year and is now at Plano Senior High. Phillips talked with Prep Hoops today.
“This summer I was really working on my jump shot and ball handling,” Phillips explained. “I played with RM5 this summer (I moved to Texas).
“I go to Plano Senior High School and have been doing a lot of working out with school. It was a hard transition as far as the workout routines and the expectations but I’m excited.”
Phillips wants to become a better ball handler in preparation for his senior season.
“Ball handling and my jumping ability I have really worked on this summer,” Phillips. “I feel like I would start being recruited if I showed my athletic ability by jumping to go along with my strength.”
Jahwan gave Smoky Hill ten points and three plus boards a game but he’s in a new situation now in Texas.
“Last year my school didn’t go so far but this year we have a new team. We have a 6’11 transfer which gives us some height, I come into play with ability to score, we have another wing who can flat out shoot it, we have a smart point guard, and we have people coming back from injuries. We are going to be solid this year I promise that.”
As far as Jahwan goes he wants to have a bigger year and wants to see the postseason.
“My individual goal is to really gain recruits focus and do whatever I can to help the team win,” Phillips said. “As a team aspect we plan on winning district going to playoffs and winning state we have tunnel vision.”
Local programs in Texas are now calling Phillips about his college future.
“Austin College wants me to plan to take a visit up there soon,” Phillips said. “A couple college coaches have been in practice and I had the chance to meet them and have some small talk like Northern Arizona, UIW, Incarnate Word, UTA, and UTD.”
