Top 250 Expo: Southwest Ohio Prospects (Part 2)
This week, we will highlight the top players from each region of Ohio, in an effort to show love to the prospects who had memorable performances at Saturday’s Top 250 Expo.
Dajuan Allen (2021), 5’11” G, Stivers
Allen was one of the most athletic point guards we watched all day. He attacks the rim with a herky-jerky style that was impossible to stay in front of. Allen, who will learn over time, takes off for layup attempts from too far out, which just increases the difficulty level of his attempts. As he tightens up on the fundamentals, Allen’s athleticism should draw college interest down the line.
Tyler Bush (2021) 6’3” G, Ryle (KY)
Bush doesn’t have the look of a 2021 prospect. He’s a pretty filled out kid for being a freshman, and was able to dominate a couple opponents in the 1-on-1 drills with his strength. Bush is a pretty crafty scorer to keep an eye on in Kentucky.
Brad Colbert (2020), 6’0” G, Archbishop Moeller
Colbert is a shooting specialist who we’ve never seen have a bad day stroking it. Once again this weekend, Colbert converted catch-and-shoot opportunities time and again. Colbert is also a disciplined off-ball defensive player.
Khalil Davis (2020), 6’0” G, Princeton
Davis played with the older group this weekend and made sure to assert himself on the defensive side. We were impressed with his instincts as a help-side defender, as he often soared in for blocks and weak-side rebounds. Offensively, Davis can shoot the triple and is a reliable lead ball-handler.
Derek Eddings (2020), 6’1” G, La Salle
Eddings has the looks of La Salle’s future point guard. He sees the entire floor, handles the ball well, has the confidence you’re looking for from that spot, and is a reliable shooter. On one particular play where a teammate made a back-cut, Eddings froze the defender by staring down the wing, even though the cutter was already moving towards the rim, and bounced a dime through the window.
Brett Gilbert (2020), 6’5” F/C, St. Xavier
Gilbert is a big sophomore. Most of his contributions came on the inside, where he finishes consistently with the right hand. Also, Gilbert had a couple of flashes of athleticism when attacking the rim on straight-line drives and cuts. When he’s able to get his feet together and be more fluid, Gilbert could be a very interesting forward prospect.
