Ohio Top 250 Expo Preview: Last Minute Sign-Ups
Tomorrow at Pickerington North High School, Prep Hoops presents the . The classes of 2020 and 2021 will take the floor from 9:30a.m.-2p.m. with upperclassmen hooping from 3-7:30p.m.
On our end of things, the anticipation for tomorrow’s action has been building since last year’s event. It’s been a long time coming! What’s more is that 2017’s event promises to bring even more coverage, more college coaches (both at the event and reading the articles), and more competition.
You can expect a ton of recap coverage next week from multiple Prep Hoops Ohio writers, but we also wanted to bring you one final preview, to give you an idea of which Ohio prospects will be at Pick North tomorrow.
Little Anderson (2019), 6’3” W, Cardinal Stritch
Anderson returns to the Expo for his second appearance. As we wrote about earlier this week, Anderson has excelled in camps lately, so we expect for his athleticism to shine tomorrow. He’s an emerging prospect whose on-ball defensive upside is obvious.
Kyle Goessler (2019), 6’0” G, Brunswick
Goessler brings a competitive edge to the floor. Expect a tough-nosed effort during gameplay. In the skill development part of the day, Goessler should impress in the shooting drills. He’s a multi-sport athlete, playing golf and baseball also, who ranks as #121 in Ohio’s class of 2019.
Dshawnti Hawkins (2019), 5’9” PG, Clark Montessori
Hawkins, another player we wrote about this week, is coming off a sophomore season where he averaged double-digit scoring figures from the point guard spot. Hawkins puts pressure on the defense by relentlessly penetrating gaps in the defense. We are especially curious to see if Hawkins consistently creates shot opportunities for teammates.
Ratez Roberts (2019), 6’2” F, Sidney
Roberts, the 73rd-rated Ohio junior, is one of the top 2019 coming tomorrow. As a sophomore at Sidney, who plays in a competitive Greater Western Ohio Conference (GWOC), the 6’2” Roberts averaged 11.5 points (69 percent shooting), 6.4 rebounds, 2.8 blocks, and 1.8 steals.
Brent Darby Jr. (2020), 6’5” W/F, Garfield Heights
Darby adds to a list of promising 2020 prospects who are attending the Expo tomorrow. He differentiates from his peers with athleticism and size. Darby has the looks of a Division I prospect currently. There’s no doubt that Darby will affect the game in the paint — as a rebounder, defender, and finisher — but we’re also curious to see him in shooting and ball-handling drills.
Kobe Righter (2020), 5’11” PG, Columbus DeSales
Expect a well-rounded package from Righter tomorrow. This summer with VCC-NOVA (Alleyne), Righter showed the skills and IQ to create as both a primary ball-handler and as a catch-and-shooter on the wing.
Jake Warriner (2020), 6’3” W/F, New Albany
While we consider Warriner as a combo forward right now, he could be making a transition to a true wing. His shooting, ball-handling, and change of speeds on the dribble-drive certainly resembles a wing. However, with Pro Bound’s 15U group, Warriner was tasked with defending the rim and rebounding, because of a lack of size on the team. At the end of the day, it’s early in his development, and we’d expect all of this to be more of a positive than anything.
Marcus Stewart (2021), 6’2” G, Wellington
Stewart has been the beneficiary of a lot of buzz over the past couple of months or so. He even played on Pro Bound’s 16U team in the final weekend of the July live period, at the GRBA National Championships in Fort Wayne. He has a high-arching jumper that he shoots both on the catch and off the bounce.
