Super Showcase Standouts: Part 2
The final live period for travel ball took place this past week.
I was in Orlando at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex for the Super Showcase. A ton of college coaches made appearances including West Virginia’s head coach Bob Huggins among the long line of attendees.
Here is a look at the second part of my top standouts list from the week.
In case you missed it: Part 1
Deniro Dumas (Creekside/Upward Stars)
The 2018 Creekside forward is someone I was impressed with last summer. Deniro Dumas has only gotten better and I watched him attack more often than not for the Upward Stars this week. Dumas is an ideal low Division I/high Division II prospect. Look for him to have a solid senior season.
Shakur Poteat (Edgewater/GPI All-Stars)
For the GPI All-Stars, 2020 guard Shakur Poteat was tremendous. He hit outside jumpers, led the offense down the court in transition and pushed the ball inside. At 5’10”, he is still lean and gets beat at times on defense, but his mature offensive game is a big plus. Edgewater will be using Poteat often alongside its new look group.
Devin Young (South Oldham/Louisville Lightning)
Over in Kentucky, Devin Young showed a ton of upside. He worked hard on defense, forcing steals and burying jumpers in the process. At 6’5″, the 2018 prospect is someone who is flying under the radar a bit in Louisville. Look for him to have a big senior season at South Oldham.
Samuel Griffin (Westminster/Team CP25)
The talk around Disney was how impressed coaches were with Samuel Griffin. The 2019 Westminster shines the most when he is aggressive. That’s what coaches like about his game and he can really shoot when he gets into a rhythm. He’s just a role player for Team CP25, but at Westminster, he’s going to be one of the top scorers this fall. Griffin is a low to mid-Division I talent right now.
Troy Higgins (Byron P Steele/Prince Elite)
We don’t have a Texas site just yet, but one kid from the Lone Star state that impressed me was Troy Higgins. The 6’1″ guard is strong at first glance and has the tools to be a very sound player at the next level. He’s a rising senior and is someone who should have a nice all around year at Byron P Steele. Higgins is low-Division I/Division II prospect.
