Recruiting Report: Bodie Hume (2018)
With just a few minutes left in the 3A state championship game earlier this month, things looked hopeless for Bodie Hume and the Sterling Tigers.
Until it wasn’t.
Hume, a 6-foot-6 2018 forward, was the catalyst as the Tigers overcome at 10-point fourth quarter deficit to beat Faith Christian 48-47 and claim the state title.
“It’s definitely still kind of hard to believe how it happened,” said Hume, who had a team-high 15 points in the victory. “It was a huge deficit for us, one of the biggest of the season for us. Most of the time when we’re down like that we don’t really come back, so I think it showed the heart of our team to show we had the ability to come back and win a state championship.”
Things could just be starting to warm up for Hume, who has earned a spot on the Colorado Hawks 17U Elite team for the spring and is set to play his first tournament with the team at the Prep Hoops Route 66 Kickoff in Oklahoma this weekend.
“Once I figured out I was on the Colorado Hawks, I was really excited,” Hume said. “I think Coach Simeon (Boddie) is a great coach, and the guys on the team are a great bunch of guys. I can’t wait to play with them this coming weekend.”
Hume has flown under the radar for much of his high school career while playing 3A basketball two hours outside of the Denver area. But he’s talent has quickly stood out during workouts with the Hawks. Boddie has praised Hume’s athleticism and motor, and he’s clearly demonstrated his commitment to improvement by making the two-hour drive each way, three times per week, to attend workouts with the team.
For his part, Hume believes he has already improved his game through competitive, intense practices with the Hawks.
“I think it’s helped me a bunch already,” he said. “I feel more aggressive because of the competition there is. I feel like I’ve gotten quite a bit better too, and I’ve loved the experience.”
Hume, who could play the three and the four this spring and summer, is eager to show colleges viewing games on the Adidas Circuit a versatile game.
“I really like to pride myself on defense,” Hume said. “I think I can be somewhat dynamic with my size and I feel like I am a player who can play pretty much any position.”
Hume did a little bit of everything for Sterling this season. In leading the Tigers to a 22-5 record and the state title, Hume averaged 15.7 points, 5.8 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 1.4 steals per game. He hit 27 3-pointers and had 42 blocks.
