Continue ReadingCooper High School is rolling into the 33rd district championship game with a 24-4 record. They are also undefeated against district foes on the season. If you are looking for one of the answers to Cooper’s success, look no further than junior guard Adam Kunkel.
Playing along side senior guard and Bellarmine University signee Sean McNeil, Kunkel has stepped up his game from 15.3 points per game last season to 17 per contest this year. “I’m a scorer. I can shoot the 3 and I’ve been working on attacking the rim more. I also think I’m capable of playing the point if my team needs it,” said Kunkel. Adam is currently shooting 45% from beyond the arc and 82% from the charity stripe.
The college interest has been there, even before the season started. Kunkel currently has NCAA Division I offers from Samford, Central Arkansas, and Winthrop. Other schools showing interest include Boston University, USC Upstate, Indianapolis (D-II), High Point, Kent State, Northern Kentucky, Belmont, and Miami (OH). “I feel like I’ll catch the interest of college coaches because of my floor vision and my ability to score the ball. I’m an intelligent player and can play any guard position. Whatever I need to do to get the job done I’ll do it, and I love to win.”
In the classroom Kunkel is an A-B student and takes his studies very seriously. “My work ethic in the classroom meets that of my work ethic on the court,” said Kunkel.
When asked about his goals going into the summer (after winning as many high school tournament games as possible, of course), “I would like to keep building on the college interest that I’ve earned thus far, maybe some looks from a few other bigger schools. I just want to open up some eyes.”
