The event offered a look at some freshman getting ready to make their high school debuts in a few short weeks.
Here are some of our thoughts on some of the top performances in that class:
MVP
Ty Foster, 5-11 guard, Lincoln
Dre Galloway could have an impressive four-year starter on his hands. There’s no doubt Foster will be able to contribute at the 5A level right away. He’s got great athleticism, able to sky to the rim and finish above defenders. He’s quick and agile and confident with the ball in his hands. Foster made some ball-handling mistakes that aren’t uncommon for young guards, but there’s no doubt at his skill set. He has the energy and makeup to be a strong two-way player at the position.
Other Standouts
Cameron Le Van, 5-9 guard, Legend
We’ve seen Le Van play quite a bit since the spring and he seems to keep improving. He has a natural feel for the point-guard spot, knows how to work angels well to set up his shot. Continuing to set up teammates is probably the next step in the evolutionary process for Le Van, but he has shown strong flashes.
Lian Ramiro, 5-9 guard, Manual
Though undersized, Ramiro also has a strong feel for the point guard spot. He’s unselfish and has a knack for setting teammates up in good spots. Plays with a strong motor and runs the floor hard. His jump shot is crisp. Should be an instant contributor for a Manual team that has big goals.
Hezekiah Swanson, 5-10 guard, Overland
Swanson didn’t have his best day shooting the ball, but he still found ways to impact the game — whether it was chasing loose balls, stepping up defensively on the perimeter or setting teammates up for good looks. He has good athleticism and is quick. As he continues to hone his skill set, those attributes should all come together nicely.
Wesley Allen, 6-0 guard, ThunderRidge
Another player who just seemed to do a lot of the little things. Allen has a nice jump shot that could expand to long range. He handles the ball well and plays with good toughness.
Kaleb Chaney, 5-8 guard, Overland
Chaney played with noticeable energy, unafraid to battle for loose balls even while playing against much bigger players. He is sound with the ball in his hands and is often looking to set things up for teammates. Shows promise as a defender. Has a lengthy frame that should fill out.
Tyler Cooper, 6-3 guard, Castle View
Made his way into the top-60 game at the camp along with Le Van and Ramiro. Really nice size for a freshman and showed a willingness to use it on both ends of the court. Nice shooting form and solid touch around the basket.
