Among the content we’ll providing periodically until the start of the season is a look at 20 candidates for the Prep Hoops Colorado Player of the Year Award. Our inaugural award last season went to Overland’s De’Ron Davis.
So who is today’s candidate?
Kolton Peterson
Could Lakewood be this year’s Lakewood — the JeffCo team that ran the table in league play and road that momentum all the way to the 5A Final Four?
Repeating that feat would be tough, but Lakewood has a chance to do special things because of the experienced roster that is led at the top by Kolton Peterson.
The 6-foot-2 guard is a walking 20-point game. He’s scored more than 1,200 points during his career with the Tigers. He’s made 227 3-pointers (300 next?) while shooting 45 percent from behind the arc.
He can run the point, run off the ball, run the floor and run the show. He’s done it since his freshman season, when he was thrown into a major role and averaged 11 points per game.
Peterson will be off to Colorado Mesa next season, and we have no doubt he’ll keep pouring in buckets at the Division II level.
First, he’ll try to finish off a legacy as one of the best players in Lakewood history with a league championship and beyond.
