Among the content we’ll providing periodically until the start of the season is a look at 20 candidates for the Prep Hoops Colorado Player of the Year Award. Our inaugural award last season went to Overland’s De’Ron Davis.
So who is today’s candidate?
CJ Jennings
Some program is going to get a major steal in 6-2 Sierra guard CJ Jennings. It’s as simple as that.
The senior enters his final high school season uncommitted but gaining interest from a number of low- to mid-major Division I programs. Whichever one gains a commitment from the versatile guard is going to be in luck.
Jennings has blossomed tremendously over the past year, his growing length matching his impressive athleticism and talent. Jennings can consistently finish above the rim, often on the receiving end of lob passes he can finish with authority.
His mid-range jump shot is among the most impressive you’ll find in Colorado this season, and he can be absolutely harassing on the defensive end. It was this total package that helped Jennings average 22 points, 5.6 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 2.7 steals per game during an impressive junior season.
He only kept rising during his final grassroots season with the Colorado Miners, proving he belongs while often showing up the best against top-flight competition in national tournaments.
Jennings has a great temperament on the court and is an ultimate competitor, part of a 2017 class of Colorado Springs players that is among the most impressive the city has produced in some time.
If he stays on his upward trajectory, the recognition for Jennings won’t stop within his city limits.
