Among the content we’ll providing periodically until the start of the season is a look at 20 candidates for the Prep Hoops Colorado Player of the Year Award. Our inaugural award last season went to Overland’s De’Ron Davis.
So who is today’s candidate?
Brevin Brimble
It’s rare that you don’t see Brevin Brimble with a basketball in his hands. When he shows up the gym long before his teams are set to play, he’s constantly bouncing the ball through his legs, behind his back, around a teammate.
His desire to always feel the ball in his hands could explain why he’s so good with once the whistle blows.
As he begins his senior season for a Doherty team with high expectations once again after running to the 5A quarterfinals last season, it’s the 5-11 point guard who will be at the controls. He averaged 14.7 points and 3.5 assists last season and is likely in for a jump in those numbers this year.
The major reason: Brimble has rarely left the gym since last season ended. He’s worked tirelessly to add muscle to his frame, and it’s been evident. The hot-shooting guard has such a high on-court IQ that he is constantly able to find his shot. Adding another level of physical strength will only give him one more weapon against defenders who already have a tough task guarding him.
Brimble enters his senior season uncommitted and anxious to prove he’s as good as most any guard in his class. Between now and then? He’ll just keep bouncing that ball.
