Prep Hoops Colorado Top 250 Expo Preview: 2019 & 2020 Point Guards
The official start of the 2016-17 high school basketball season in Colorado is still more than two months away, but we can go ahead and call Saturday it’s unofficial start.
That’s because you won’t find a better event in the state to get you ready for the season than the Prep Hoops Colorado Top 250 Expo, which will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday at Gold Crown Fieldhouse in Lakewood.
There are more than 200 players who will be in attendance at the event, with great coaches putting them through skill work before having the chance to compete in games against their talented peers. There is simply no better stage for players to grow their game, face stern competition and get exposure in front of the Prep Hoops staff.
With that, we continue our preview of the Top 250 with the 2019 and 2020 classes. If you’re not on the list, you’re still in the right place, with a chance to show us what you’ve got come Saturday!
Point Guards
TJ Boykins (2019) is fresh off helping Boykins Academy win the AAU Nationals in Las Vegas this summer. The 5-7 point guard has made big strides as a scorer and should play a big role as a sophomore for Douglas County this season.
Levi Dombro (2019) can play on the ball or off. He’s a strong ball-handler who knows how to keep a defender on his hip, and he’s a strong shooter. Should be a good backcourt complement to LeChaun Duhart this season.
Payton Egloff (2019) is one of the top sophomores in the state. He’s a really strong ball-handler and can get hot in a hurry from 3-point range. Egloff has good lateral quickness as a defender and should be in for a big season with the ball in his hand for Regis Jesuit.
JoVon Nelson (2019) has transferred to Chaparral after a strong freshman season at Far Northeast. He’s quick and athletic and has good toughness that helps him play bigger than his 5-10 frame. Good defender who plays with a strong motor.
Andre Sepeda (2019) is a tough-nosed 5-8 point guard at Greeley West who made a big impact on a team that competed to the end for a Front Range League title. He has confidence running the show and knows how to make plays. Attacks the basket well and is consistent from long range.
Cameron LeVan (2020) played up with Colorado Premier’s 15U team and confidently led the team at the point guard spot. He should be a key player as a freshman for Legend this season.
Quinten Rock (2020) has already created quite a buzz as he prepares for his freshman season at Smoky Hill. He’s already received a scholarship offer from the University of Denver and played with nationally known AAU program Mac Irvin Fire. He’s explosive with the ball in his hands. He’ll have some up and downs, as all freshman do, but he’s certainly a talent at the position.
