PHC Top 250 Expo Preview: 2019 & 2020 Wings and Forwards
The official start of the 2016-17 high school basketball season in Colorado is still more than two months away, but we can go ahead and call Saturday it’s unofficial start.
That’s because you won’t find a better event in the state to get you ready for the season than the Prep Hoops Colorado Top 250 Expo, which will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday at Gold Crown Fieldhouse in Lakewood.
There are more than 200 players who will be in attendance at the event, with great coaches putting them through skill work before having the chance to compete in games against their talented peers. There is simply no better stage for players to grow their game, face stern competition and get exposure in front of the Prep Hoops staff.
With that, we continue our preview of the Top 250 with the 2019 and 2020 classes. If you’re not on the list, you’re still in the right place, with a chance to show us what you’ve got come Saturday!
Wings and Forwards
Charles Davison (2019) is a 6-7 sophomore who we saw for the first time at our combine event last fall. While still a bit raw as he grows into his frame, Davison has good natural touch and feel for the game.
Kyle Mock (2019) is a 6-6, 175-pound sophomore out of Delta, who is coming off an impressive freshman season. He averaged 11.1 points and 7.2 rebounds in his debut season and was held to single digits only five times in 21 games. He’s confident throwing his weight around and his skills are growing.
Kevin Sax (2019) at 6-6 is another tall forward in the sophomore class. The Colorado Premier staff was pleased with the development of the big man over the summer, particularly in how he grew defensively.
Zeke Van Tuyl (2019) might currently be the tallest player in the state at 6-11. When watching him play for Wheat Ridge during June team camps, it was clear Van Tuyl has worked hard on his footwork, putting himself in better position to use his size to his advantage. Zeke is not overly athletic, but he has a nice ceiling with a lot of time left to grow his game.
Bailey Verk (2019) is the 6-4 brother of former ThunderRidge standout at Clay Verk, who is now at Division I Stetson. Bailey is versatile in that he can play three or four different positions on the court. He’s got good size to bang down low but is athletic and skilled enough to make an impact on the perimeter.
We admit we have yet to see Tommy Rau (2020) take the court, but at 6-8 as a freshman at Highlands Ranch, his size alone provides a lot of intrigue.
