“I’ve been on three visits to Wisconsin. And my high school coach tells me Tennessee Tech, Samford and Morehead State have been asking about me,” said Spencer, who elaborated on his Wisconsin visits.
“They went really well. I went on one during football season last fall, and then I went on one during basketball season. And I went on just a school visit and checked out their facilities and stuff.”
He added: “I think about my recruitment all the time. My parents played in college. And I think every player my age thinks about that.”
A 6-foot-1 point guard from Elliott County, Spencer is a highly-skilled sophomore-to-be who specializes in pushing tempo.
“I like to rebound, get the ball and push it as fast as I can, and I’ve really developed my pullup jump-shot,” said Spencer. “I need to continue to work on my passing and my defense a little bit more, those can always get better.”
While playing with one of Indiana’s premier grassroots programs this offseason, Indiana Elite, Spencer says he was able to showcase his distributing abilities.
“I played really well. I was more of a pass-first point guard on that team, and I really enjoyed playing with them,” he said. “It was a great group of guys, and some great coaches.”
Last season as a freshman with the Lions Spencer averaged 18 points per game. This season his role will again be to score, but he says he’ll look to lead more too.
“My freshman year was great, we made it to the state tournament. My role this year will be more of a leadership role than it was last year, just letting the younger guys follow me,” said Spencer. “Me and some of the older guys have to lead, and I hope we have another great season.”
