Yes, the 6-1 2017 point guard — the No. 2 prospect in the Prep Hoops Colorado 2017 class and No. 2 on the Super 50 — led Eaglecrest to an incredible season last year, one that ended in a state-title game loss to powerhouse Overland.
But Ross has also learned that producing winning routines and developing winning habits is a constant process that can’t rest. It’s why he went to work with Colorado Chaos this season more determined than ever, helping the squad produce one of its best seasons ever.
“It’s sad to think that it’s all over, that I won’t be playing club basketball anymore,” Ross said. “But it was a great season. The thing I really took away was winning. I knew how important winning was, but winning in club makes it a lot more fun, and that’s what we went out there trying to do every week.”
The result was title-game trips in back-to-back highly competitive tournaments: The Great American Shootout in Dallas and the Fab 48 in Las Vegas.
Ross drew national attention for his play in the latter, and his scholarship offers shot up during the final two evaluation periods in July. He added offers from Denver, Northern Colorado, Pepperdine, Pacific, Stetson and Texas State to offers he already had from Rice, Cal Poly and Weber State. He hasn’t yet announced a timeline for making his college choice.
Ross said improved consistency on his shot was the most noticeable stride he made this summer.
“And I’ve really increased my work ethic,” Ross said. “I know that as a point guard, the leader of the team, I can’t let anybody outwork me.”
Ross is hard at work preparing for his upcoming senior season. Eaglecrest will enter the season as one of the favorites to win the 5A title, and Ross has even decided to forgo his senior season of football in pursuit of a championship ring in basketball.”
“That’s what it’s all about,” he said.
Winning.
