Currently the 5-foot-11 sophomore is the state’s 22nd-ranked 2019, and considers himself to be a true pass-first floor general.
“I consider myself to be an unselfish point guard who likes to try and make the right play in order to help his team win. I can also knock-down open shots, and get into the lane whenever I feel I need to,” said Woods.
“I need to become a more consistent shooter. Me and my dad have been in the gym daily to help work on that — and just trying to get my release higher. And I’ve been trying to get stronger in the weight room, and also trying to become more of a leader on the floor.”
Woods sustained a groin injury in February of his freshman season with the Vikings that kept him out for six weeks. And though he did miss most of the spring, he played with Hoops Dreams during the summer.
“We had a lot of scorers on that team and I helped get them open shots. And ultimately my job was to score the ball and help us win games,” said Woods.
And now, after coming off the bench last season, Woods is ready to be a leader and starting point guard with Rowan County.
“Last year we had another talented point guard so I played a lot of backup minutes. So I came in and was like an energy guy, and helped knock down a couple shots and create when I could,” said Woods.
“This year I’ll be the starting point guard, and I’ll have the opportunity to score the ball more and get more opportunities for my teammates.”
