Hoop Dreams AAU Head Coach Mike Scott can’t stop raving about Allen. He sees the ceiling so high for the lengthy wing. When a taller, young player shoots as well as Allen does it suggests they will live on the wing, regardless of their ultimate height.
Allen projects as a shooting guard, with DeMarr Johnson-size. The key for Allen’s development is tacking on upper body weight. So often, tall shooters fail to develop their strength and become T-rex arms at the next level. He needs to keep slashing, keep driving, and balance out the game. It can be done. Allen is skilled, but also agile.
“Miami called,” shared Coach Scott. “Miami of Florida. Assistant Coach Jamal Brunt called and wants to get involved. He said he watched him play this summer and was really impressed.”
Brunt was integral to signing Justin Harper when he worked at Richmond.
With the comportment of a shooter, Allen actually plays like a multi-faceted wing. He projects as a 1st-team All-State player by his junior (and senior) years.
Playing with Hoop Dreams 15u Allen garnered respect from multiple D1 coaches. He will absolutely play D1 basketball, barring injury or wavering commitment. The summer was a good one for Allen and the future will be even better.
