The loose balls secured, the charges taken, the big shots hit, and the defensive assignments aced made him a valuable contributor off the bench for the JeffCo League champs.
Now, Vrabel is preparing for a bigger role with Chatfield as he heads into his senior season.
“I’m really looking forward to it,” said Vrabel, who averaged 8 points and 3.4 rebounds per game last season. “I know we have a good team this year. We’ve got good teammates who have been playing together since seventh grade, so we have the chemistry there. I’m just excited and have been working really hard this summer, so hopefully it pays off next year.”
Watching Vrabel play with Chatfield at the University of Denver Team Camp on Friday, it’s clear he has what it takes to be a big-time contributor this season, along with the likes of Joe Miks and Titus Reed, for a Chatfield team that could be poised to make another deep playoff run.
He has good quickness and a high motor, traits that helped him be among the highest overall scorers at our Prime Time Prospects Combine last fall at Gold Crown. He has good footwork and really knows where to be on the defensive end.
Offensively, he’s worked hard while playing for B&B Academy this spring to expand his game.
“I think I’ve become a much better shooter,” he said. “And decision-making, I’ve gotten better with that.”
Vrabel is heading to Eastern Washington University on Tuesday for its elite camp and is working hard to show colleges he can contribute at the next level.
“Hopefully I’ll play well there,” he said. “I just want to go anywhere. As long as I can play basketball in college, I’ll be happy.”
Vrabel knows with his height that he’ll need to play a one or two in college, so he said he’s dedicating himself to further improve his guard skills.
“I’m only 6-2,” he said. “So ball-handling and all that, I’ve just got to get better at all of it.”
