For the time being, we are putting out a watch list for the 2020 class. Important to note: This is not a ranking of players, and they aren’t in any particular order. This is simply a list of some of the players we’ve seen from that class who could make big impacts as high school players.
There will be much more evaluation to be done before we actually do our first, small-batch rankings for a group that will begin its collective freshman season this upcoming winter. For now, here are a few names to keep an eye on:
Quinten Rock, 5-9 guard, Smoky Hill (Mac Irvin Fire)
The talented, young point guard has transferred in from Chicago and should make an immediate impact at Smoky Hill. Rock, who already holds a scholarship offer from the University of Denver, has great range and good floor vision, and he plays the position unselfishly.
Cameron Le Van, 5-8 guard, Legend (Colorado Premier)
Will have a chance to make an impact for the Titans right away. Le Van plays with good toughness, doesn’t back down from bigger opponents. Has good outside range and is good at setting teammates up in scoring position.
Lían Ramiro, 5-9 guard, Manual (303 Elite)
A young point guard who has simply displayed a high IQ for the game. Knows how to attack and get to the rim. A willing passer who excels in transition, Ramiro has averaged about 15 points per game while playing with Manual during June tournaments. He’s played up on a strong 303 Elite 15U team that includes our No. 2 player in the 2019 class, Jaedon Bowles.
Taylor Harris, 6-2 guard, Pueblo West (Colorado Miners)
Harris has a smooth, measured pace about his game. He makes smart decisions with the ball and doesn’t have a lot of wasted movement getting to where he needs to go. He’s got nice size and uses his length well on defense. Wouldn’t be surprised to see him make an impact in his first year for the defending 4A champs.
Hezekiah Swanson, 5-9 guard, Overland (Colorado Hawks)
Good quickness and burst at the point guard spot, Swanson could be the next in a line of talented floor generals Overland coach Danny Fisher has helped grow in recent years, guys like Austin Conway, Jervae Robinson and Reggie Gibson. Swanson is best on the attack, which will become an even more dangerous tool as he continues to strengthen his jump shot.
Jake Hassett, 6-6 forward, Rock Canyon (Colorado Elite)
With good athleticism and strong footwork and coordination for a player who has already grown as much as Hassett before even hitting high school, the big man has intriguing upside as he begins his prep career. He runs the floor well, has soft touch and gets after it on the glass.
Kobe Sanders, 5-11 guard, Chaparral (Billups Elite)
Sanders (pictured at the top of this article) has quick hands that he uses on the defensive end to be a pest guarding the ball. He’s also an unselfish distributor, and I have been impressed with his body language and the way he carries himself on the court. Seems to have the natural skills to be a strong leader at a key spot.
Christian and Christopher Speller, 6-2 guards, Rangeview (Colorado Miners)
These players will know doubt make their own unique impacts at Rangeview and will be evaluated on individual merits. Still, this is a great package the Raiders will be getting. Both players are strong and smart and can get to the bucket.
