Prep Hoops Spring Kickoff Preview: 14U Division
The time is almost here for the inaugural Prep Hoops Colorado Spring Kick Off, and with a field loaded with the best prospects in Colorado, there is no better way to tip off the spring AAU season.
Tonight we continue our division previews with a look at the 14U division, which will include many strong players from the class of 2020 and beyond.
Here is a team-by-team breakdown in the division:
Colorado Chaos 14U Elite: Blake and Mike Hatchell, twins who will be at Pine Creek, and Austin Glasener (Loveland), a 6-foot-2 versatile forward, lead a solid and capable group. Tristan Smith (Elizabeth, 2021) is playing up. Ryan Rohrs and Marco Busnardo will soon be at Mullen.
Colorado Hawks 13U: A skilled young backcourt of Jalen Weaver, Treyvaughn Williams and Jordan Weaver has wonderful chemistry. Forward Arden Walker has a lot of potential. This is another Hawks team playing up a division but bursting with talent.
ABA Elite: The Aspen Basketball Academy is heavy on future Ponderosa players and the 14U level is no exception. Porter Lubbers and Chris Gilbert are both playing up a year. Evan Randall and Luke Bille are future Regis Jesuit Raiders.
Colorado Connect: Takoda Fisher is a rangy utility guy who can play 1-5 and defend the perimeter at a high level. Patrick Steed is an enforcer, Sam Geer is a 6-foot-3 extremely physical player who is a monster on the glass, and 6-foot-5 Dassabi Darnell is an athletic lefty with a good motor. Jaden Stoffel is among the top players for the team as well.
Colorado Elite: 6-foot-5 skilled forward Jake Hassett (Rock Canyon), 6-foot-3 athletic wing/post Justin Lohrenz (Columbine) and 6-foot-3 lanky Chris Franquemont (ThunderRidge) lead a team with a lot of size. Garrett Arnold is playing up a year as a high IQ point guard with strong ThunderRidge bloodlines. Colton Sanders (ThunderRidge) is another strong guard. This team has the height and overall skill to make plenty of noise.
Colorado Titans White 14U: The third team for the Titans, this class is deep and their skills and basketball IQ are coming along nicely. Alex Bleam, Pete Boyle, Ethan Hatch and Ryan Collins are among the players on this team.
Colorado Titans Grey 14U: The Titans are able to carry a fourth team for this age, and feature a group short on height but with plenty of capable shooters. Titans director Rick Jimenez said both the White and Gray teams will improve tremendously. Aiden Bagley, Aidan Barber, Tas Miley and Cooper Sheldon are members of the Gray team.
Colorado Titans Gold 13U: The Gold 13U team is full of dual-sport athletes, but they might be the best shooting group in the program, according to Jimenez. Roanne Edwards, Luke Johnson and Ryan Turner are among the strongest players for their top team at 13U. Jimenez is excited about this group.
Colorado Titans Black 13U: The second team is led by Dylan McCurry, the younger brother of 6-foot-8 2017 prospect Cameron McCurry, a star player for Erie. Andy and Kevin McMahon and Drake Arthur are all tough. Twins Grant and Kailey Page, sixth graders playing up, are both outstanding athletes. Kailey is the first girl to ever play for the Colorado Titans, according to Jimenez.
