Sophomore of the Year
Sam Masten, 6-2 guard, Rock Canyon: Choosing this award did not come easy, as Masten and George Washington’s Daylen Kountz were neck-and-neck. We gave Masten the slight edge for leading Rock Canyon to an incredible season, helping lead that team in multiple ways. He was an accomplished scorer even amid consistent double-teams, finishing with 18 points, 3.9 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.5 steals per game.
Check out the full all-sophomore teams below:
First Team
Daylen Kountz, 6-5 wing, George Washington: The lefty led George Washington to a perfect finish in the Denver Public League while averaging 21.9 points per game, the highest total of any player in the class.
Tre Pierre, 6-5 forward, Widefield: One of the most improved players in the state, Pierre was a double-double machine at 17.9 points and 9.0 rebounds per game.
Trey McBride, 6-3 forward, Fort Morgan: McBride averaged 16.1 points and 10.6 rebounds for a Fort Morgan team that went 13-1 in the Class 4A Colorado 7 league.
