CHATFIELD 88, GEORGE WASHINGTON 83
Don’t sleep on the JeffCo League. It’s top three teams in our preseason league predictions are a combined 4-0 after the Chargers topped the Patriots in what has to be considered at least a mild upset. Haven’t been able to find a boxscore from the game yet, but there’s little doubt Riley Welch’s return has already boosted Chatfield in a major way.
GREEN MOUNTAIN 57, THOMPSON VALLEY 55
A nice road win to start the season for the Rams, who were paced by one of 2016’s top uncommitted wings in Austin Fritts, who nearly had a double-double with 24 points and nine assists. He did it in highly effective fashion by knocking down 5-of-7 shots from the field (including 2-of-4 from 3-point range) and 8-of-10 free throws, and he added five rebounds.
ARVADA WEST 59, NORTHGLENN 44
The Wildcats got balanced scoring while missing top player Luke Neff. Will Wittman led the way with 15 points and 11 rebounds and Dallas Walton added 14 and seven as A-West won back-to-back games to open the season. Sophomore point guard Kevin Jimenez accounted for more than half of Northglenn’s scoring with 25 points.
FAIRVIEW 64, CHAPARRAL 44
Fairview won by 20 points after trailing by nine at halftime. Frank Ryder helped wear down Chap in the post in the second half. The bruising, 6-foot-10 University of San Diego-bound center is going to be a load for anyone to deal with in the post this season. In watching 9News highlights of the game, Ryder shows great footwork and balance on the block. He takes his time and knows how to use his body. Dominic Coleman was a big bright spot for Chaparral with 22 points, eight rebounds and three steals.
FOSSIL RIDGE 117, THORNTON 71
As we know, when Braxton Bertolette gets rolling, watch out. The junior guard knocked down six 3-pointers on his way to a game-high 33 points and he added six assists. Cam DeHart added added 15 points as the Sabercats rolled to a season-opening win.
FORT COLLINS 72, BEAR CREEK 45
Jacob Pfaffinger had 18 points and 11 rebounds as Fort Collins stormed to a huge lead after the first quarter and never looked back. Damien Murillo added 15 points and eight rebounds.
MOUNTAIN VIEW 73, ERIE 48
Jose Orrantia had 26 points, six rebounds and six steals to help Mountain View go to 2-0 after blowing past Erie. Orrantia is one of the top uncommitted guard in the 2016 class. Brett Corona added 14 points for Mountain View. Erie got a double from Cameron McCurry, who had 12 points and 15 rebounds.
