Murray is led by 2016 guard James Boone and 2017 sharpshooter Preston English while Tilghman is led by two senior guards in Devon Hart and Sayveon McEwen. Tilghman also has sophomore standout J.J. Reed and freshman stud Rod Thomas as well. I think Murray has the best player in the game and will win this one by about 5 points.
12/11: #22 South Laurel at North Laurel: A rivalry game featuring the best player in the 13th region in North Laurel’s Peyton Broughton and arguably the best team in South Laurel. North Laurel is undefeated as of this moment (they play tonight), but South Laurel will be their biggest test. South Laurel is sitting at 1-2 with losses to two ranked teams. I think South is deeper and more talented and pull out a 10-point win that’s closer throughout.
12/11: Southwestern at #19 Wayne County: A match-up of two of the best teams in the 12th region. Southwestern passed their first test against Casey County last night thanks in part to a big night from point guard Peyton Gover. Seniors Corey Stearns, Trey Blevins, Nick Gillespie and Daniel Coldiron lead Wayne County, but they lack depth after that. Southwestern is deeper and more talented, I think they get another big 12th region win Friday night by about 8 points.
12/12: #24 Ballard at #21 Clay County: This is a really interesting match-up with some great history (namely Richie Farmer and Allan Houston in the Sweet 16). I think 2017 point guard Jamil Wilson gets his team a nice road win over 2016 guards Blake Smith and Trey Farmer and their Clay County team. Bruins by 4 points.
12/12: #10 Lafayette vs. #19 Wayne County: Lafayette and Wayne County both have big match-ups earlier in the week (Lafayette tonight against Dunbar and Wayne County Friday against Southwestern). I think both teams lose their first game and Lafayette is deeper and better suited to rebound after a tough loss. Generals win by 12 points.
12/12: #16 Cordia vs. #4 Bullitt East: This is going to be a really interesting match-up, especially because Bullitt East’s 6th region rivals Fern Creek just beat Cordia on Sunday. I think the Chargers will struggle to defend the athleticism of Cordia’s guards, but they ultimately grind out a win by 6 points. 2017 Cordia guard Anthony Nelson and 2016 Bullitt East guard Tyler Sharpe should have big games.
12/12: #14 Central at #13 Covington Catholic: I think this match-up is really bad at this point in the season for Covington Catholic. They start a sophomore point guard in Aiden Ruthsatz who’s still adjusting to the varsity level. Central will press all game and make Covington Catholic uncomfortable. Central wins by double digits and versatile senior forward Dai’Von Thompson posts a double-double.
12/12: Butler at Pleasure Ridge Park: Butler-PRP is among the fiercest rivalries in the state of Kentucky. While both teams are a little down this season this game will still have great atmosphere and hopefully be a thrilling affair. I think 2018 butler point guard JaQuay Wales is the best player in the game and he leads his team to a 2 points win.
12/12: #11 Fern Creek at #8 Trinity: Opposing styles go at it with the run and gun Tigers against the slow it down Shamrocks. I think Fern Creek has more talent and will make it extremely tough on Trinity. Fern Creek senior Tony Washington and sophomore Ahmad Price get hot and leads the Tigers to a 5 point win.
