Mr. Colorado Basketball Candidate: Tyrei Randall
On the Colorado Hawks’ vaunted 17U squad this summer, Alpha Diallo drew major attention for his rise from relative unknown to top 100 national player.
De’Ron Davis drew attention because, well, De’Ron has been on the national map since he was eighth grader being recruited by the likes of Indiana.
Quietly going about his business on the same team was Tyrei Randall, who could just be in for a breakout senior season and for that reason finds his way onto our list as a darkhorse preseason candidate for PHC’s Mr. Basketball Colorado award.
The smooth and skilled Randall was a consistent force while helping to run the show for the Hawks, performing particularly well during the opening evaluation period outside Atlanta.
At 6-foot-5 with great length, Randall is fantastic in transition, where his speed and explosiveness makes him dangerous.
One only had to see the posterizing dunk Randall threw down in transition during a tournament with the Hawks in May to see what this dynamic player is capable of.
But Randall isn’t only big-play flash. The lefty averaged 13.4 points as a junior while shooting 46 percent from behind the 3-point line.
Randall is part of an athletic and experienced Rangeview team that has the potential to make a deep playoff run this season, and the Rangers will depend heavily to provide not only scoring ability and defensive pressure but also leadership.
If Randall can do all that and continue to grow an already impressive game, it wouldn’t be a stretch to see him end up as one of Colorado’s most productive players by season’s end.
