Olinto is such a joy to watch and is a pure show. The 5-foot-10 guard is undersized, but he’s a dog and a relentless rim attacker when he has the rock. He’s always driving at you downhill and has a knack for finishing below the rim with the trees trying to block him. His outside shot isn’t super lethal, but he’s one of the best downhill playmakers in D3 and is going to create easy opportunities for his teammates all night whenever he plays.

In terms of pure skill level, I feel pretty confident making the claim that Olinto was the best player I saw in this tournament. The 5-foot-10 guard has the ball on a string and uses excellent change-of-pace moves and quickness to breeze by defenders at will (no pun intended). In both the semifinals and championship, the entire defense was constructed to stop Olinto from puncturing the paint, but he still got there pretty often. He needs to improve his outside shot, but he already has an excellent understanding of how to get his teammates involved, even as a sophomore, and he has some pretty special finishing instincts at the hoop. He has a super bright future ahead and is going to have a heck of a spring for Middlesex Magic if I had to guess.

Olinto, a guard out of Boston Latin Academy in Massachusetts, checks in at #11 among the point guards and #84 overall. Olinto has really taken his game to another level this winter, both with his ability to score the basketball and to create for others. He’s terrific in transition, showing the ability to play at different speeds, to find teammates in scoring spots, and to score it at the rim with a lot of creativity. In the half-court, he has real breakdown ability in isolations and does a nice job of playing off of slow steps in the paint. He competes on the defensive end of the floor and does a great job of quickly transitioning to offense off of turnovers.

He is crafty, gets downhill a great leader for Boston Latin. He is smart on decision making when to attack the gaps of the defense, slicing teams up like a butterball. It doesn’t stop there pushing the tempo off fast breaks when his team has momemtum even taking it coast to coast himself. Finishes at the rim with success on a few moves especially his High Rip Euro or when he kept the ball high and had a scoop shot layup twisting in mid-air. He can stretch the floor with his catch and shooting. Rebounded extremely well today with 9. College prediction is D3 but with two years left can elevate himself into D2/low D1 status.

Olinto is the main cog for Boston Latin Academy and he has some pretty special conditioning ability. He played virtually the entire game but was always in attack mode and playing hard on the defensive end. The lefty guard has a great first step and always gets into the paint at will, and he has some great athleticism and craftiness once he gets to the hoop. He’s a lot stronger than he looks, too, so he’s able to keep his line on drives and takes contact very well. He will be a star for Boston Latin Academy this season and projects to be an awesome college player, probably at the D3 level (but it’s very early).

Olinto is a solid sophomore guard who really knows how to play. The 5-foot-10 southpaw does a great job going North to South on drives and makes really excellent reads at the nail when the help comes. His ability to play off the catch and make reads in the triple threat is impressive, and he has a real knack for attacking with ferocity at the hoop. He needs to improve his three point shot and right hand, but he should get playing time for Boston Latin Academy this season. Some improved touch from both inside the lane and out on the perimeter would be really big for him.
