+82 (#134 to #52)
Nunes, a guard out of Austin Preparatory School in Massachusetts, rose 82 spots in this update and now sits at #52 overall. At 6’4″, he’s a bigger guard that has really developed his all-around game on the offensive end of the floor. He’s grown quite the reputation as a shot maker throughout the region, impressing with his quick release and ability to make contested shots consistently. What might be most impressive is the way he’s quickly begun to leverage his shooting, both as a slasher and cutter off the ball, finishing with length at the rim.

Nunes is a do-it-all guy for Austin Prep who has shown more offensive flashes than I thought he would this season. The 6-foot-3 wing has proven to be a knock-down perimeter shooter and even had some pretty turnaround shots from the mid range against Rivers. Additionally, though, he’s a phenomenal rebounder for his size and can defend both up and down positionally because of his length, athleticism and toughness. The sophomore plays well beyond his years and is going to be a key player for Austin Prep this season and in the future. Definite college prospect.

I’ve always liked Nunes’ game, and it was nice to see him come into his own a bit for Austin Prep during the Prep Classic. The 6-foot-1 guard appears bigger than that because of his length and strength, and he’s able to guard ball handlers and wings as a result. Offensively, he has really nice athleticism at the cup and can finish with contact, but I was most impressed with the development of his three point shot, which looks compact and accurate. Nunes is only a sophomore and should continue to grow a lot with the reps he’ll get for Austin Prep this season.

Nunes, a guard out of Austin Prep in Massachusetts, checks in at #134 overall and #25 among the shooting guards. Nunes is one of the better outside shooters in this class, showing the ability to put the ball in the basket in a variety of ways from behind the arc. He’s got a quick trigger, repeatable stroke, and works to get open by being in constant movement. He’s learned how to leverage his shooting and now is attacking closeouts and getting into the paint off the bounce. Defensively, he can guard both back-court spots, sits in a stance and competes, and does a nice job of making opponents pick up their dribble outside of scoring spots.

A great shooter from mid-range or deep which is amplified by his rotation on the ball and follow through. Super athletic getting to loose balls or rebounds. Has to play bigger and against the bigger players and doesn’t have issues with being physical and keeping his ground.

Nunes, who reclassed at Austin Prep after spending a year at Methuen, is a big time shot maker on the perimeter. Another well built wing, Nunes has a real scoring mentality and the ability to get hot in a hurry. He does a good job of running wide in transition, moving off the ball, and setting his feet while showing his hands early. He has a quick release that allows him to get his jumper off with little space. Recently, he’s showing signs of developing his game off the bounce and now leverages his shooting by shot faking and attaking bad closeouts. He’s capable of guarding either back-court spot defensively and should only get better on that end as he gets stronger. He’s one of the more impressive shooters in this class and should be someone who’s offensive game continues to develop over the coming years.

Nunes is only a freshman but played well beyond his years at the showcase last night. He knocked down three after three – both off movement and off the catch – and also made the simple kick ahead pass again and again. He’s also a solid athlete with some vertical pop at the rim. At 6-foot-2, Nunes is already shaping up to be a high level D3 wing, and that’s if he doesn’t continue to grow and get stronger. Bright future ahead for Nunes, who could be a scholarship player if he continues to develop the way he should.
