Expert Analysis
Robbie Hodin | Prep Hoops Scout
Wane looks like he’s making some meaningful strides in his game. The 6-foot-6 wing/forward plays bigger than he is and is thus able to guard wings and bigs alike. He has long arms, he’s a lot stronger than he looks, and his motor is very solid, so he makes enough plays to overcompensate for the size he’s giving up to some guys. He looks way more comfortable on offense than I’ve seen him in the past—he’s slowing down for finishes at the rim and his shot looks more compact—so he should be primed to have an excellent spring with NE Storm HGSL.

Wane mans the paint for Austin Prep as the only guy who’s remotely big-man sized, but he does a really good job defending bigger guys than himself even though he could probably be considered a wing. He has super long arms and is very tough physically, so he makes up for his lack of vertical size (only 6-foot-6). He’s also active on that end and is always around the ball. Offensively, he shows some flashes of really nice extended finishes at the hoop and can even make an outside shot here and there. Wane is only a junior and should see his D3 interest rise as the year goes on. Perhaps some big improvements to his offensive handle can earn him a few scholarship looks.

Wane, an athletic and versatile wing out of Austin Prep in Massachusetts, made his presence felt with his defensive versatility and high two-way motor. He has good positional size and great length, rebounds defensively with the ability to initiate the break, and can defend up and down a line-up with his combination of lateral mobility and strength. Offensively, he’s a capable scorer that excels when finishing around the rim, cutting off the ball, and attacking closeouts as a slasher.
