Higgs, out of the Northfield Mount Hermon School in Massachusetts, checks in at #5 among the centers and #48 overall. Higgs takes up a lot of real estate in the paint with a big frame and the strength to ward off defenders on post ups. He sets solid screens, has a good set of hands, and does a nice job of finishing over either shoulder in the post. He doesn’t mind playing through contact and is able to score with touch anywhere around the rim. Defensively, he can rebound in traffic and does a nice job of being vocal on the back line of defense. He’ll continue his academic and athletic careers at Princeton.

Higgs, the #3 Center and 35th ranked prospect overall, has the ability to make plays around the rim with his length and quickness off the floor. He does a nice job of moving laterally, can get up and down the floor quickly in transition, and uses his length to his advantage as a finisher and rim protector. He’s got a good feel for finding soft spots in the defense as a roller out of screens and is a plus lob threat off of drives. Defensively, his quickness off the floor allows him to be a high level rim protector. The skilled prospect has a high ceiling and will be a priority recruit at the mid-major level this winter.

We highlighted Higgs just a few weeks ago in our Notable Newcomers article, as he’s new to the rankings in New England after coming to the region from New Jersey. The Northfield Mount Hermon big man is a good athlete that gets up and down the floor well. He’s a strong interior finisher that has a variety of post moves, the ability to finish over either shoulder, and the athleticism to finish above the rim with authority. He’s a solid screen setter that does a good job of mixing up rim rolls and pops to soft areas. He’s a high level defender that can move his feet in space and protect the rim, while providing a vocal presense on the back line. Moving to the NEPSAC should only help his recruitment as he’ll face high level competition night in and night out.

Higgs, who makes his way to New England from New Jersey, played his way onto our radar at the NEPSAC Showcase this summer. A fluid and mobile big, Higgs has the ability to impact a game on both ends of the floor. He moves incredibly well for a prospect of his size, both laterally on the defensive end of the floor and in transition on offense. He has solid hands, a strong base, and good enough athleticism to challenge defenders at the rim. With his IQ and mobility, he looks like the type of prospect that could eventually develop his perimeter game. Defensively, he’s solid in ball screen actions and offers plenty of rim protection. He’s a high academic prospect that’s heard from multiple Ivy League schools and could see a rise in his recruitment this winter.

Higgs is already an elite shot-blocker because of his 6’11” size. His ability to be a disruptor in the paint and cause for many contested shots is what will make him one of the better defenders in his class. Higgs has excellent awareness from players looking to drive in the paint as he can get deflections off of bad passes. He moves his feet well when looking to switch onto other players in the paint making it difficult for players to get any shot up against him.

Higgs is an intimidating presence down low in the paint standing at a tall 6’10”. He controls the whole paint with his long arms making sure no shot gets past him. Higgs can even run the fastbreak well for his size which can lead to many stops and chase-down blocks. His perimeter defense will improve as he gets better but he makes up for it with his size. He is great at taking someone from a drive in the paint and switching off to the other player receiving the pass to block the shot.

Higgs can move well for a 6’10” center as he can guard multiple positions. He is excellent in the post-up game as he loves to play his back to the basket and take advantage of weaker defenders. You can even run pick-and-pop or pick-and-roll plays for Higgs to get easy points for his team. He is skilled in the painted area and hardly ever misses from that area due to his soft touch around the rim.

Higgs is a big man prospect who could see his stock rise with more looks on the offensive end this spring and summer. The 6’10 post is able to get position down low and can finish around the basket. Higgs is a good option in the pick-and-pop game as he sets solid screens and can knock down open jumpers on the perimeter. He fights for rebounds on both ends of the floor and uses his size to influence shots around the basket. Higgs should receive more touches on offense, which should help his stock in a big way.
