Smalling is another player to keep an eye on this season for a stacked Woodside group, and he was productive across the board for The Way in both of their games this past weekend. The 6’3” wing is strong and physical which he showed as he rebounded well on both ends of the floor, he showed the ability to make shots from all three levels and finish through contact, he was excellent in their press flying around and getting deflections, and he did a lot of little things that may not show up on the stat sheet but showed up on the scoreboard.

Trenton Smalling is one of the top scorers and combo guards in the 757 and all of VA. He had a strong showing on the weekend, averaging just around 14 PPG. Trenton was pivotal for the squad defensively, guarding bigger wings or other teams’ primary scoring options, and time and time again he came out on top in the matchups. It’s easy to see why he is among the top players in his area and why he should be a scholarship-level player. Trenton will continue to raise his recruitment stock, especially heading into this coming weekend. Trenton is an elite scorer who uses his quickness and physical frame to his advantage.

Trenton Smalling was phenomenal this weekend and had a monster performance with 25 points. He’s a versatile guard/wing who can play multiple positions and rebound at a high rate. Trenton is a scholarship-level player who excels in transition and has received tons of interest from many different schools. He has been one of the top performers on the 3SSB Gold Circuit and Team Loaded’s leading scorer throughout the summer.

Trenton Smalling is an absolute steal for scholarship-level schools. He had a monster showing at the DC Live event with Woodside, where he had 32 points and 11 rebounds in one game. He is the perfect combo guard for the next level with his physical frame, defensive instincts, and high IQ play. He’s one of the more athletic players at the event this weekend. Trenton plays for Team Loaded 3SSB Gold and has been the team’s leading scorer all summer long. He’s a very aggressive combo guard who can score at the rim at a high rate and flat-out shoot it. Trenton has legitimate in the gym range being able to shoot from anywhere. He’s been under-recruited thus far, but I fully expect that to change soon.

-Smalling can really score it as a CG prospect that has added some nice burst off the dribble and bounce above the rim to become a well-rounded guard that is a threat to score from all 3 levels. I liked the blend of size to bully his way to the basket and IQ to get both his man/help defenders in the air to draw fouls around the rim. Smalling is a confident shooter that is just as comfortable sitting behind a screen and launching a deep 3 as he is utilizing a screen to get to his elbow jumper off the dribble. He has both the necessary size and physicality to defend either guard spot and plays with a good motor to win 50/50 balls in the halfcourt. Interested to track his development over the next year as a guard prospect that isn’t too far away from earning a few scholarships with further skill development.

His explosiveness immediately stands out, especially in transition and attacking the basket. He consistently made athletic plays around the rim and created extra possessions through effort. Defensively, he was active and disruptive while using his length and quickness to pressure opposing guards.

Competing at the 3SSB Gold Session in Round Rock, Texas, Smalling played a major role in helping Team Loaded Gold finish the weekend 4-0 and secure spots in both the Gold Finals and 3SSB Finals. Against high-level competition, he consistently delivered.

Smalling averaged nearly 17 points, five rebounds, and 3.5 steals per game while bringing energy and explosiveness every time he stepped on the floor. His athletic ability immediately jumps out, but what made his weekend impressive was how much more there was to his game than highlight plays.

He thrives in transition and is one of the better open-floor athletes in Virginia. Once he gets downhill, defenders are often put in difficult situations because of his speed, body control, and ability to finish above the rim. He also showed the ability to score from multiple areas on the floor, proving he isn’t simply relying on athleticism.

Defensively, his activity level created problems throughout the weekend. His length and quickness allowed him to jump passing lanes and create extra possessions.

Smalling entered the event with plenty of upside, but he left Round Rock looking like one of the more intriguing prospects in the state’s 2027 class.

At 6-foot-4, Smalling creates matchup problems with his size and athleticism in the backcourt. His confidence offensively continues to grow each weekend, and he’s become a reliable scoring option whenever Team Loaded needs a basket.

Defensively, Smalling embraced tough assignments and used his length and instincts to disrupt opposing guards. His energy, athleticism, and ability to impact winning played a huge role in the team’s success in Texas.

After his strong showing, Smalling earned All-Tournament First Team honors and continued to prove he’s one of the top rising guards in Virginia’s 2027 class.
