About Sonny
Expert Analysis

Sonny did a nice job moving without the ball in the half-court, consistently putting himself in positions to impact the game offensively. Defensively, he showed good timing when contesting shots and came away with multiple blocks, demonstrating his ability to protect the rim and alter attempts around the basket. Offensively, he took advantage of closeouts by putting the ball on the deck and attacking gaps in the defense, showing more versatility than just being a catch-and-shoot option. I also liked his vision and feel for the game. Sonny was able to connect with teammates in different areas of the floor and did a nice job feeding the post when operating on the perimeter. When attacking the basket, he displayed impressive body control, contorting around defenders while remaining balanced and under control. Defensively, he was disciplined for the most part, staying home, walling up around the rim, and making opponents earn their points. The one area I would like to see him improve is avoiding ball fakes, as he was occasionally too eager to leave his feet when guarding other bigs. Adding more strength and weight to his frame should also help him continue to develop and become even more effective on both ends of the floor.

Dellasanta has a chance to be one of the top 2028’s in New England with his combination of size and skill. The Milton Academy prospect is pushing 6’11”, has a plus wingspan, and is a fluid mover in space. He’s gotten stronger, looks more athletic, and has even added some strength to his frame. He does a nice job of rim running in transition, has some ball skills when catching on the perimeter, and is capable of knocking down threes from the trailer spot. Defensively, he does a nice job of using his length to alter shots around the rim and also to make an impact in passing lanes, where he creates deflections. On top of that, he’s an assertive rebounder.

Dellasanta, who will head to Milton Academy in the fall, has popped in his role for Team New England Basketball Club, proving to be one of the highest upside bigs in the region. The 2028 prospect has terrific positional size and the ability to play out of the post or on the perimeter. He can stretch the floor with his shot, has the ability to put the ball on the floor as a driver, and continues to add strength and athleticism to his game. He should continue to grow as a prospect facing high level competition this spring and summer and next year when he joins the NEPSAC.

As a key returning piece to an undefeated TNE group that may sport the most potent non-sponsored 15U lineup in the country, Dellasanta looks vastly improved with still a tremendous degree of upside left to tap into. A quintessential modern big man with an increasingly diverse inside-out skillset, he looks far more comfortable within his developing frame than he did coming out of last summer. Already a comfortable floor-spacer off the catch and natural rim protector with his size and length, Dellasanta’s now begun working in a skilled dribble-drive game that’s quite unique at his size and age. Heading into the NEPSAC this coming year, he could wind up on high-major radars down the line if he continues on this trajectory.
