McLaughlin is a fundamentally sound guard who does an excellent job getting to his spots on the floor without ever seeming rushed or sped up by the defense. He is a versatile scorer who can find the basket in a variety of ways, whether it is attacking off the bounce, finishing inside, or pulling up from beyond the three-point line. His comfort level shooting off the dribble makes him a difficult cover and allows him to create offense when plays break down. What also stands out is his feel for the game. McLaughlin reads and reacts well on the fly, anticipating plays and putting himself in passing lanes to come up with steals. In transition, he runs the floor hard, fills the lane, and frequently gets rewarded with easy scoring opportunities at the rim. He does many of the little things that help teams win, including setting off-ball screens that create openings for teammates. McLaughlin also showed strong vision, delivering several quality passes to post players for scores on the block. When larger defenders challenged him, he effectively utilized a runner to score in tight windows. He also contributed on the glass, finding ways to secure rebounds and impact possessions beyond scoring.McLaughlin tracks as a strong low-major-plus prospect.

McLaughlin was unbelievable this weekend for a 17u Magic squad that walked away Zero Gravity Finals champs. The 6-foot-2 guard was on a total heater from three-point range on championship Sunday, showcasing an impressive ability to read off-ball screens and shoot off of movement—he hit tons of deep, contested shots, too. He also excels as a driver, though. He’s a significantly better athlete than people realize and has a knack for elevating and finishing with contact while using both hands effectively at the rim. Defensively, McLaughlin has phenomenal instincts in the passing lane and is a steals machine. Oh, and he rebounds extremely well for his size. I predict McLaughlin will light NEPSAC Class A on fire this season and help Milton compete for a championship. He’s a definite scholarship player in my opinion.

I’ve seen McLaughlin play many times and have always been impressed with his shooting ability, offensive feel, and general playmaking prowess. But in a game against Lawrence Academy at Babson, it was his defense that wow’d me. He took the cookies of Lawrence’s star player multiple times and then went for easy layups, and he also walled him off in the paint a bunch of other times. He showed he can guard more than just PG’s and SG’s and can really hold his own with big time athletes, which makes him more intriguing as a scholarship prospect than I would’ve initially thought. Really excellent player who should be one of Milton Academy’s best players this season.

was dominating the game on both ends of the floor. Offensively, he came off screens to hit three pointers in stride and made quick passing decisions in the half court. Defensively, he was hounding opponents to death with blocks and steals.

McLaughlin can play on or off the basketball and has a knack for making plays for himself and others. He has a high basketball IQ and reacts to situations on the fly. Time and time again he made tough passes to his teammates. McLaughlin scored the ball at all three levels. He has no issue scarfing his body for the team. The skills he has should translate easily to a winning college program.

McLaughlin is an ultra-skilled point guard for Magic’s 16u UAA squad. He has a beautiful shot release that’s as consistent as anyone on this team, but he can also attack closeouts and get into the lane for finishes, floaters, and jumpers. The sophomore guard is at Milton Academy and should have a really big junior season there next year, and I could see some D2 schools being interested in him. Right now, the D3 level probably makes more sense, and I think he’d probably have an excellent career at some of the top end D3 schools. But if he can get stronger and improve his quickness, I could see some scholarship schools getting in the mix. Really fun player.

McLaughlin is a smooth, poised point guard with excellent control over the game’s tempo. He has a well-rounded offensive game, capable of scoring from all areas—whether it’s hitting pull-ups, finishing at the rim, or knocking down threes. His playmaking stands out, with a sharp court vision and the ability to create opportunities for teammates. McLaughlin’s versatility as both a scorer and facilitator makes him a constant threat in any offensive set.

A heady lead guard that was terrific for Hanover this winter, McLaughlin reclassified this spring and will attend Milton Academy in the fall. He’s a coach’s son and it shows on the court as he has a terrific basketball IQ and makes great decisions with the ball in his hands. He plays with a good feel for the game, mixes up his tempo, and already has a solid understanding of how to operate in ball screens. He also has the ability to score when needed and is already a strong shooter from behind the arc. Defensively, he combines intelligence with grit and does a good job of keeping opposing ball handlers out of the paint and away from scoring spots.
