McCrae, a guard out of Milton Academy in Massachusetts, checks in at #9 among the point guards and #69 overall. McCrae has done a nice job of maximizing his production in his minutes this winter, showing particular strength on the defensive end of the floor. He plays bigger than his 5’9″ frame, makes life really difficult for opposing ball-handlers, and isn’t afraid to mix it up on the glass or the floor for loose balls. Offensively, he makes good reads out of ball screen, has plus floor vision as a passer, and does a nice job of scoring from behind the arc, both off the bounce and in catch and shoot situations.

McCrae plays with a good understanding of how to get other involved and when to get his own as a scorer. He does a nice job of using ball screens to turn the corner, gets by the initial defender with a quick first step, and plays with creativity as a finisher over size. He keeps his eyes up the floor and is a playmaker in transition. Defensively, he can really sit in a stance and guard, showing impressive lateral mobility and quick hands, both of which allow him to create turnovers at a high rate.

McCrae is a jitterbug lefty point guard who has the basketball on a string. He’s lightning quick down the floor and can handle it in small spaces because of his lack of size and proximity to the ground. But he’s also a heady point guard who can make plays for himself and others once he punctures the paint, which he does often. Defensively, he uses his quickness and hands to pester opposing point guards. The incoming sophomore is on a tough Milton squad, but he should find a niche on their team and find lots of opportunities to make an impact.
