Expert Analysis
Tom Keller | Prep Hoops Scout
Onwubuariri thrived by getting downhill and relentlessly attacking the paint, consistently putting pressure on the defense with his aggressive driving ability. He also proved to be a capable perimeter shooter, knocking down shots from beyond the arc and showing that defenders must respect his outside game. When attacking the basket, he welcomed contact and wasn’t afraid to play through physicality, earning quality scoring opportunities. Onwubuariri was a bright spot for his Uptown MHC 15U squad, providing a balanced offensive presence and competing with confidence throughout the game. With his ability to score at multiple levels and his continued development, he is a prospect worth following closely over the next year.

An increasingly important contributor as the season goes on as a key spark off the bench, Onwubuariri projects as a future stalwart of the Conestoga program. A true combo who can thrive with or without the ball, he shows impressive polish with reasonable confidence in his skillset as he just begins to come into his own physically. He attacks with a mature pace off the bounce and advanced footwork around the rim, showing natural touch as a finisher and perimeter shooter. His role is still a bit limited behind an experienced senior backcourt but it could be a big grassroots season for Onwubuariri heading into a potential breakout as a sophomore. Look for him to make his debut in the next update of our 2029 rankings.

He consistently touches the paint on the attack and does a good job collapsing the defense before making the extra pass to teammates. In the half-court, he breaks the game down well and plays with solid pace and awareness. He’s shown some ability to move off the basketball as a slasher, finding opportunities when defenders lose sight of him. At times, though, he feels a bit stuck between the point guard and shooting guard spots, still defining his true position. He’s flashed potential from behind the arc, but speeding up his release would help him maximize those perimeter opportunities.
